Volunteer Time Comitments
Volunteers usually spend between 4 to 10 hours at the event.
Goal of Positions
Volunteers must be able to bend, sort, fold, lift, box, and cart personal care items up and down stairs at set up and close up of Stand Downs and do the same on one level at warehouse events. Volunteers will also organize clothing, hygiene supplies, toys, games, linens, etc., for events. Volunteers must have a positive decorum to interact effectively with the homeless at Stand Downs, with donors at warehouse, and with other volunteers at all events.

Registration
Please register by the deadline identified on this Web site or at least one week before each event. Please use this Web site to complete a registration form and email to KNMF. Include your name, telephone, school, company or group you represent (if applicable and if you would like an appraisal). State the date of the event and hours worked—please review the Web site periodically for updates. Due to event preparation schedules, calls will not be received the day of the event or the day before the event. Maps to each event site can be accessed on this Web site.
Academic Credit
Students can receive academic credit for volunteer time. On the day of the event, students must provide Doris Nickelson with their name and address, as well as the name and address of their high school, college, or university.
A performance appraisal will be provided to the student after their service assignment.
Volunteer/In-Kind Needs
Volunteers are needed to set up Personal Care Day's Stand Downs events. Volunteers will serve meals, distribute clothing, shoes, linens, hygiene and dental kits, toys, gifts, military surplus clothing, blankets, and sports equipment to homeless veterans and their families living on the street and to formerly homeless veterans and children in transitional housing.
Events benefit LA's homeless and needy with kindness, a warm meal, personal care items, and assistance from U. S. Department of Veterans Affairs, LA's homeless service providers, employers, colleges, and trade schools offering transitional housing, medical, legal, financial, paid and non-paid job training programs, and job placement services to stop the cycle of homelessness.
Volunteers interested in providing entertainment at Personal Care Days are welcome. Volunteers interested in entertaining kids at shopping sprees and other fun activities are also needed.
Volunteers interact with other volunteers to help people in need. Volunteers include people from all walks of life, Girl Scouts, K-University level students, corporate representatives, veteran organizations, and National, State, and local government leaders and employees.
Volunteer Time Commitments : 4-5 hours (7:30 a.m. to noon).
Personal Care Days Stand Downs require about 150 Volunteers at the Event.
Volunteers are also needed to help at our warehouse. Volunteers will organize personal care items for veteran's and children's events held throughout the year and meet and work with formerly homeless veterans in transitional housing programs.
